  27. I would agree with that [although for *me* the upgrade will be in the 
  28. neighbourhood of $800, living in Canada]. :-(

  30. In hindsight, I think NewTek realizes that $149 from 3.5 to 4.0 was too
  31. low. Let's face it: NewTek needs money, and this upgrade will satisfy
  32. the immediate need for cash. If that cash finances cool new *future*
  33. versions of Lightwave to compete with Max -- and maybe even SI and PA --
  34. then so be it.

  36. I also think the $1495 price tag for 5.0 is a conscious attempt to
  37. differentiate LW from the likes of trueSpace, Extreme3D, and the like.
  38. There's a rather large gulf in pricing between the aforementioned
  39. programs [& LW] and 3DS MAX. IMO, NewTek is trying to exploit that.

  41. BTW, by the time I upgrade to 5.0, I will have spent almost $2200 CDN 
  42. for 3.5 Standalone Amiga, 4.0 Upgrade Intel and 5.0 Intel. I know
  43. it's a small consolation, but feel lucky you don't have to pay duty, 
  44. 15% federal and provincial sales tax, higher shipping charges, and a 
  45. dollar that's worth 3/4 of the US dollar. [Boo hoo] I'm not _really_
  46. complaining, mind you. I've enjoyed working with LW and feel that it 
  47. compares favourably to other higher-priced packages [they know who they 
  48. are ;-)]. In short: I feel that I've gotten _my_ money's worth.
